Matt is a Danish boy living a fairly ordinary Danish life. Until he’s told his mother is moving to Spain.

You can read a little extract about the day she leaves below.

Excerpt from the Vidarland Adventure:

“

Matt’s mom kept saying how much she loved her son the day she left him.
»Mom loves her Little Mattie more than anything,« she had said over and over.
She said it as she put on her nice dress, and as she sat in front of the mirror and put on nail polish and as she explained to Matt that sometimes you have to follow your heart and that Mom’s heart was now beating for someone named Pablo, who lived in Spain. Moving down to Pablo would make Mom very happy. And didn’t Matt want Mom to be happy?
Matt didn’t know what to say. But Mom did.
»You’re so lucky that you can live here with Grandma and Grandpa!«
Mom had flung out her arms and had twirled around herself a few times, her light summer dress swirling behind her.

When she closed her suitcase with a click shortly afterward and fixed her hair in the mirror, she said it for the last time:
»Mom loves her Little Mattie very much! You know that, honey, don’t you?« She smiled her most beautiful smile and winked at him.
Matt didn’t have time to answer, because a taxi was honking outside, and Mom rushed out of the bedroom with her huge suitcase. The last thing she shouted was:
»Now remember to behave yourself and listen to what Grandma says!«

Grandma had tried in vain to comfort Matt that evening.
»I didn’t have time to tell Mom that I love her, too!« he sobbed.
Grandma could do nothing but stroke Matt’s hair. Over and over…
